Rajasthan Royals Chase 222 as Ferreira & Dubey End Punjab Kings’ Unbeaten Run

[ Poll: GwbKnlyM ]

Donovan Ferreira and Shubham Dubey played a brilliant partnership and helped Rajasthan Royals successfully chase a big score. With this win, Punjab Kings lost their first match of the season and their unbeaten streak ended.

Earlier in the day, RR won the toss and opted to bowl first. Jofra Archer came out firing once again with the new ball, generating serious pace and bounce, though he was a bit unlucky not to pick up an early wicket. He eventually got his reward in the 4th over, dismissing Priyansh Arya for 29. Prabhsimran Singh and Cooper Connolly then took the attack to the bowlers, adding a quickfire 59 runs off just 33 balls for the second wicket and shifting the momentum.

Prabhsimran looked in good touch and brought up his half-century before falling for 59 off 44 balls. Useful contributions from Shreyas Iyer (30) and Cooper Connolly (30) kept the innings on track, but it was Marcus Stoinis who stole the show with a blistering knock. His unbeaten 62 off just 22 balls powered PBKS past the 220 mark as they finished strongly on 222/4 from their 20 overs.

Ferreira & Dubey power RR to thrilling chase; PBKS unbeaten streak ends

In reply, Rajasthan Royals got off to a flying start, courtesy of the young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. He came out all guns blazing, taking apart the PBKS seamers with fearless hitting during the powerplay. Arshdeep Singh eventually broke through, dismissing Vaibhav for a rapid 43 off 16 balls in the 4th over, ending a 51-run opening stand. Yashasvi Jaiswal then carried on the momentum with some fluent stroke play.

Jaiswal went on to complete a fine half-century before getting out, while Dhruv Jurel struggled to get going, falling for 16 off 20 balls. Riyan Parag looked promising but couldn’t convert his start into a big score. The game then turned with Donovan Ferreira (52* off 26) and impact substitute Shubham Dubey (31* off 12) coming together in the middle. The duo stitched an unbeaten 77-run stand off just 32 balls, showing great composure and finishing ability to take RR home in style.

Rajasthan Royals clinch their 6th win of the season, chasing it down comfortably by 6 wickets with 4 balls to spare, wrapping up a high-scoring contest in emphatic fashion.
