"Anil Kumble's Key Advice: Bat Once to Overcome New Zealand in Second Test"

Former cricketer Anil Kumble has delivered a straightforward message to Team India ahead of the second Test against New Zealand: bat just once to secure victory. On Day 1 of the match, the pitch favored spinners, with Indian bowlers claiming all ten Kiwi wickets; Washington Sundar led the charge with seven dismissals, while Ravichandran Ashwin took three.

The New Zealand team managed to score 259 runs in their first innings, but Kumble warns that the Pune pitch is expected to become even more spin-friendly, making batting in the fourth innings a daunting task. With Tom Latham winning the toss and opting to bat first, India may find themselves chasing in the final innings—a scenario Kumble hopes to avoid.

"The pitch will dry out as the sun shines, and cracks are beginning to widen, which will provide an advantage for bowlers," Kumble noted. He also pointed out that while Glenn Phillips might not pose as much of a threat due to height, Mitchell Santner could trouble Indian batsmen with his ability to hit the deck hard.

To maximize their chances, Kumble emphasized the importance of establishing a substantial first-innings lead. "If India can build a solid advantage, New Zealand will struggle against our bowlers as the Pune pitch becomes increasingly challenging for batters," he asserted.

Kumble's insights were validated as India found themselves in trouble, losing seven wickets for only 107 runs, with Santner claiming four wickets and Phillips taking two.
