PSL 2026: Islamabad United player struck on head during training

PSL 2026: Islamabad United player struck on head during trainingIslamabad United fast bowler Mir Hamza Sajjad was struck on the head during a training session in Karachi on Tuesday. The incident occurred when New Zealand batter Mark Chapman, who is with Islamabad this season, played a shot that hit the bowler on the back of his head.

Briefly unconscious

Hamza was immediately transferred to a nearby hospital after being treated by on-field medical staff. Sources claim he was briefly unconscious after the hit, though the franchise released a statement confirming that the pacer was “vitally and hemodynamically stable” after reaching the hospital.

A precautionary CT scan was also conducted, though it is understood that nothing concerning was found.

Hamza’s T20 career

Hamza, who Islamabad bought for PKR 7 million in the auction, has yet to play for the franchise in the PSL. The 30-year-old made his T20 debut in 2024 and has since played a total of six shortest-format games, with a tally of six wickets.

He was also a part of Mashonaland Eagles, who reached the final of the Zimbabwe Domestic Twenty20 Competition, where they lost to Durham.

Islamabad suspended their training session following the incident. They will play Lahore Qalandars in their first game of the Karachi leg on April 9. Currently, the three-time champions sit in third spot in the points table, with two wins, one defeat, and one washout in four games.
