PSL 11 retentions: retention fees, total retentions, remaining purse
PSL’s six existing franchises announced their retentions ahead of the player auction, set to take place on February 11. Having been allotted a purse of PKR 450 million, which can be stretched up to PKR 505 million to accommodate direct signings, teams utilised a significant portion of that purse to keep their core players from previous editions.
Rules for player induction:
Each team was allowed to retain a maximum of four players, one from each category. Barring Islamabad United, which retained three players, all sides filled their retention slots to maximum capacity. Including retained players, teams can stock between 16 to 20 players, with 5 to 7 foreign players depending on the squad size.
Quetta Gladiators spent the highest amount on their retentions among all PSL teams, while Multan Sultans, having retained no players, will go into the auction with the biggest purse.
Who got the most?
Babar Azam (PZ), Shaheen Shah Afridi (LQ), Shadab Khan (IU), and Abrar Ahmed (QG) were all retained for the highest amount: PKR 70 million. Following them is spinner Usman Tariq, who will earn PKR 56 million for his retention.
Andries Gous (IU) and Sikandar Raza (LQ) are the only overseas players to be retained, as they stayed with their franchises for PKR 14 million and PKR 39.2 million respectively.
