PCB will form an independent panel to oversee Multan Sultans’ retentions

PCB will form an independent panel to oversee Multan Sultans’ retentionsThe Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to task an independent panel to oversee retained players for Multan Sultans ahead of the player auction. Sultans, whose contract was not renewed by ex-owner Ali Tareen, were earlier announced to be run by the PCB in-house.

Sultans up for auction

However, later the board reversed its decision, announcing it was putting the franchise up for sale ahead of PSL 11. Following that, the board invited bids for Multan’s franchise rights through an advertisement, with the deadline set for January 30 at 3 PM Pakistan Time.

While the date of Multan’s auction has not been announced yet, the franchise would need to be on track with the others for the player auction on February 11. For this, the panel will select one retention per category from the shortlisted players.

New owners will take over from the panel

Once the franchise is sold, which is expected to be done before the player auction, the new owners will fill in the remaining squad.

The retention categories for foreign players will be decided after the auction registration window, which opened on Monday, closes on February 3.

Additionally, retention categories for overseas players from last season will be based on their registration base price. However, players and franchises are free to make changes to that category.

Each franchise will announce the retentions after all players have been allotted their categories.
