PCB Slams “Fake News” After Reports Link Salman Mirza to Hotel Misconduct Allegation

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has clearly denied reports that a Pakistan cricketer behaved badly with a female staff member at the Golden Crown Hotel in Kandy. Earlier today, reports had emerged suggesting the PCB will impose a fine and take disciplinary action against the said player.
The cricketer, whose name was not revealed, was reportedly accused of behaving inappropriately with a housekeeping staff member before Pakistan’s final Super 8 match against Sri Lanka. The incident occurred between February 25 and 28. The alleged victim raised an alarm before other employees came in to help her.
Reports Claim Player Could Be Fined as PCB Denies Misconduct Allegations
The issue was reported to Pakistan’s team manager, Naveed Cheema, who apologised to the hotel on behalf of the player. If Cheema had not handled the situation, the player could have faced serious trouble. Pakistani media publication ARY News had alleged that the unnamed cricketer in question was left-arm fast bowler Salman Mirza. The PCB has responded to the rumours, calling them misleading and threatening to take action.
“PCB has taken serious notice of baseless and fake news aired by ARY News regarding a Pakistani left-arm fast bowler. PCB strongly condemns the broadcast of such unverified and misleading information and views this act as malicious and irresponsible. PCB reserves the right to take appropriate action against those involved in spreading false news,” PCB said.
