Pakistan Proposes Hosting Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup Matches Amid India Standoff, ICC Faces Key Decision

Meanwhile, in the current situation between the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the International Cricket Council (ICC), Pakistan has come forward and is now offering to host T20 World Cup matches for the former. This is after Bangladesh asked the ICC to shift their matches that were initially set in India due to rising tensions between the two countries. Although a decision on this issue was to come out by January 10, a special proposal has come in.

Pakistan Emerges as Alternative Host for Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup Matches

As reported by Geo Super, the interest to host the T20 World Cups for the matches of the Bangladesh cricket team has already been conveyed to the ICC in case Sri Lanka does not agree to host it. According to the publication, the source from the PCB has revealed that the country was more than ready to host the matches for the T20 World Cup. The Champions Trophy 2025 was the last ICC international event held in the country, with the UAE as the co-host because of the Indian government's refusal to travel to the country for the event.

The Report said that,

“The sources further stated that Pakistan has already successfully hosted major ICC events like the ICC Women’s Qualifier, ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and that they are fully capable of conducting these matches perfectly as well,”

Earlier, there were reports that the ICC had outrightly rejected the Bangladesh relocation request and threatened the BCB that otherwise the Bangladesh team will have to forfeit their points if they do not make it to India. The BCB had denied the news with the statement that the ICC had promised to work hand in hand with them on this issue. This issue had started when BCCI asked the Kolkata Knight Riders to include Mustafizur Rahman in their list before the IPL 2026, since the unrest in the crowd of India was rapidly mounting.

The trio of matches in Kolkata and one match in Mumbai are on the cards for the group stages of the T20 WC for Bangladesh. Though it has already been cleared by BCCI that rescheduling T20 World Cup matches at such short notice would be a logistical nightmare, there has been no decision from ICC in this regard yet. However, if exempted, it would be the second instance of this kind for them after Pakistan, who have to play its matches at a neutral venue.
