This punishment was imposed after the team's elimination from the tournament, and the PCB itself will recover the amount from the players. This decision is considered quite surprising.

The Pakistan team was eliminated in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026. This is the fourth consecutive ICC tournament in which the Pakistani team has failed to reach the semi-finals. Consequently, the Pakistan Cricket Board has taken action. According to media reports, the PCB has imposed a fine of 5 million Pakistani rupees (approximately 16 lakh Indian rupees) on each player of the team. This fine applies to all members of the team who participated in this World Cup.

PCB fines Pakistan players after T20 World Cup exit

The amount is quite large for Pakistani cricketers, especially at a time when the team is already facing criticism. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will collect the fines directly, so the money will be deducted from the players’ salaries, match fees, or other payments.

This step seems to be part of the PCB’s new policy that links players’ earnings to their performance. Action for poor results has happened before in Pakistan cricket, but such a large fine has drawn more attention. It is also uncommon for the board to fine players simply for poor performance.

Pakistan played all its matches in Sri Lanka, yet it failed to capitalize on its losses. Pakistan began the tournament by defeating the Netherlands by 3 wickets. However, it narrowly escaped defeat in that match as well. It then won against the USA by 32 runs. However, it lost to India by 61 runs. It then narrowly qualified for the Super 8s.

However, its performance in the Super 8s was not particularly impressive. The match against New Zealand was washed out due to rain. England then defeated them by 2 wickets. They then won against Sri Lanka but failed to qualify for the next round due to their net run rate.
