Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik announces retirement from PSL

Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik announces retirement from PSLBatting all-rounder Shoaib Malik has decided to bid adieu to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after featuring in ten editions.

Malik’s PSL Career

Over the years, Shoaib has represented four franchises, including Karachi Kings, with whom he started and played the most games, Peshawar Zalmi, Multan Sultans, and Quetta Gladiators. He played for the Gladiators in the previous edition, though he spent most of the tournament warming the benches.

In all, he has played 93 PSL games to date and barring Quetta Gladiators, he has also captained the remaining three sides. He is currently the fourth-highest run-getter in the league, having scored 2350 runs at an average of 33.09 and striking at 127.

Will Malik be a part of the new PSL franchise?

He announced his retirement on his social media handles at a time when one of the two new PSL franchises, Sialkot, which is also Shoaib Malik’s home city, is gearing up to reveal major details of the team.

"I cherish every single moment and friendship I have made on and off the field throughout my 10 years of the Pakistan Super League as a player. It's time to call it a day," Malik wrote in a brief statement.

"However, my passion and motivation to serve for the betterment of cricket will always stay. Thank you, PSL."

The eleventh edition of the PSL is set to run from March 26 to May 3, with eight teams featuring in the league for the first time.
