Babar was ‘quite upset’ about denied single, says Sydney Sixers’ captain
While the dust has settled now, Sydney Sixers’ captain Moises Henriques revealed that Babar Azam took a couple of days to move on after being denied a single. The incident occured in the Sixers’ penultimate group stage game, when Steve Smith refused Babar’s call for a single on the last ball of the over. He, then, took Power surge to smash 32 runs in an over, the most ever scored in a single over in BBL history.
‘Misunderstanding of culture’
Babar, however, wasn’t happy, which became more evident when he was bowled out on the next ball he faced. Visuals of him angrily leaving the field while striking the boundary line on his way out made rounds on the internet even after the game finished.
"It took a couple of days for that to settle down," Henriques told Fox Cricket. "To be honest, think it's just a bit of a misunderstanding of culture of each other.
"It's a pretty common thing in our culture, and maybe for him (Babar) he wasn't used to it and didn't quite understand. Once it was explained to him he was absolutely fine. They've kissed and made up and it's two of the greats back friendly again."
Henriques leading the talks with the coach
Elaborating more about the aftermath, Henriques said that he along with coach Greg Shipperd brought Babar around.
"[We are] always trying to understand…we could visibly see he was quite upset with what happened on the field, so we needed to try and understand why he felt that way. Once we got to the bottom of it, it was okay."
Interestingly, since being denied that single, Babar has only managed to score one run in the following two games. He was dismissed for a duck in the Qualifier against Perth Scorchers after returning back for one run in the previous game against Brisbane Heat.
