PAK vs SA 1st Test Day 1 Highlights: Pakistan End Day 1 at 313/5 Against South Africa, Rizwan and Agha Unbeaten

PAK vs SA 1st Test Day 1 HighlightsOn Sunday, Pakistan finished the first day of the first Test against South Africa at 313-5 after 90 overs at the Gaddafi Stadium. Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha were still batting. Pakistan, batting first, faced an early setback when opener Abdullah Shafique was out for just two runs from three balls, caught LBW by Kagiso Rabada in the very first over.

Skipper Shan Masood and Imam-ul-Haq stabilized the innings with a crucial 161-run partnership for the second wicket relieving early pressure. Imam, playing his first Test since 2023, scored his 10th Test fifty, while Shan notched his 12th. The partnership ended when Prenelan Subrayen got Shan out for 76 runs off 147 balls, which included nine fours and a six. At that point, Pakistan was 163-2 in 47.3 overs.

Babar Azam Reaches 3,000 Runs in World Test Championship

Babar Azam came to the crease and quickly got into rhythm, hitting boundaries from the start. During his innings, he reached a big milestone in the ICC World Test Championship, becoming the first Pakistani and the eighth batter overall to score over 3,000 runs in the tournament’s history.

Before tea, Senuran Muthusamy gave South Africa two important wickets, dismissing Imam-ul-Haq for a fine 93 off 153 balls, which included seven boundaries and a six and getting Saud Shakeel out for a first-ball duck. Pakistan was then 199-4 in 57 overs.

After the break, Babar Azam was out for 23 runs off 48 balls, with Simon Harmer taking his wicket. In the final session of Day One, Salman Ali Agha and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan steadied Pakistan’s innings with a 50-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Rizwan maintained his composure to reach his 12th Test half-century as Salman Ali Agha notched his 10th fifty in red-ball cricket.

The duo put together a century partnership by the end of the day, with Rizwan unbeaten on 62 and Agha on 52. For South Africa, Senuran Muthusamy took two wickets, while Kagiso Rabada, Prenelan Subrayen and Simon Harmer took one each.
