Ottis Gibson, Misbah-ul-Haq in Zalmi’s star-studded coaching staff
Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Peshawar Zalmi have appointed former West Indies player Ottis Gibson as their head coach ahead of the upcoming season.
Gibson comes in as head coach
Gibson brings extensive coaching experience, having worked twice with England’s men’s team as bowling coach. Additionally, he has served as head coach of the national teams of both West Indies and South Africa.
The West Indies cricketer has had coaching stints with Yorkshire County Cricket Club and franchise teams, including Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL and its CPL offshoot, Trinbago Knight Riders.
Mehmood and Yardy to coach Zalmi bowlers
He will be joined by former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mehmood as assistant coach. In addition, Mehmood, who was recently associated with the Pakistan men’s team in the same capacity, will also serve as the franchise’s bowling coach.
For the spin bowling role, Peshawar have roped in Michael Yardy. Yardy has previously coached England Under-19s and Kent County Cricket Club, although in a batting coach role.
Misbah ul Haq returns to Zalmi
Zalmi have addressed their batting coach requirements with the appointment of former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq. Like the other appointments, Misbah brings a wealth of coaching experience. A former Zalmi player himself, the right-handed batter served as head coach of Pakistan's men’s team from 2019 to 2021.
