Misbah, Sarfaraz join Pakistan men’s selection committee after Aleem Dar resigns
Former captains Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed have been appointed to the Pakistan men’s selection committee following the team’s early exit from the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The inclusion of the two was confirmed shortly after Aleem Dar, who had been a member of the panel since October 2024, resigned from the position.
Misbah returns to a similar role
The selection committee now includes four members. Besides Misbah and Sarfaraz, the committee comprises Aqib Javed and Asad Shafiq, both of whom have held their positions since 2024.
Misbah has previously served as the chief selector for the side. He was hired on a three-year contract in September 2019 in a dual role as selector-cum-head coach. However, following a change in the Pakistan Cricket Board’s code of ethics to prevent conflicts of interest, the former captain had to step down from the selector role.
Dar's resignation
Dar’s resignation reportedly stemmed from frustration at being sidelined during key decision-making. Sources close to the matter said the former umpire was unhappy with head coach Mike Hesson’s unilateral decisions, which no one on the panel questioned.
Dar is said to have advocated for Mohammad Rizwan to be included in Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad at No. 6 instead of Usman Khan. He also opposed naming out-of-form players, including Babar Azam and Shadab Khan.
