Naseem Shah penalised for violation of ICC Code of Conduct in ILT20 final

Naseem Shah penalised for violation of ICC Code of Conduct in ILT20 finalPakistan bowler Naseem Shah has been fined 10 percent of his match fee from the ILT20 final for violating Level 1 of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of Conduct.

Verbal spat between Naseem and Pollard

Naseem, who was representing title winners Desert Vipers in the league, was involved in a verbal spat with MI Emirates captain Kieron Pollard. The incident occurred in the 11th over of the chase when the young pacer smiled at Pollard after bowling a dot ball. This triggered an aggressive response from the veteran batter, and Naseem did not back out either, forcing the umpire and other players to step in.

Umpire Simon Taufel penalised Naseem for breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

“Desert Vipers pacer Naseem Shah has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct following the DP World ILT20 Season 4 final against MI Emirates at the Dubai International Stadium on 4 January,” the ILT20 announced on its official website on Monday.

“Shah was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to the use of language, actions or gestures that could disparage or provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter following their dismissal. The sanction was imposed by Match Referee Simon Taufel.”

Naseem’s heroics with the ball in the final

Interestingly, Naseem dismissed Pollard on the first ball of his next over, leaving MI Emirates in a tough spot. The 22-year-old fast bowler was at the top of his game in the final, taking three crucial wickets for just 18 runs in his quota of four overs.
