Mustafizur, Taskin Among Bangladesh Stars Failing Fitness Test Ahead of Asia Cup 2025

A few weeks before the ACC T20 Asia Cup 2025, several Bangladesh cricketers struggled to pass the new fitness test introduced by strength and conditioning coach Nathan Keily. Instead of the old Yo-Yo test, players now had to complete a 1600-meter run and a 40-meter sprint. Nahid Rana was the standout, finishing the 1600-meter run in just 5 minutes and 31 seconds. According to Cricbuzz, experienced fast bowlers Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed took close to eight minutes to finish the same run. Tanvir Islam and Shamim Patowary also failed to impress in their performances.
According to report, senior fast bowlers Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed took almost eight minutes to finish the 1600-meter run. Tanvir Islam and Shamim Patowary also failed to make an impact. Besides Nahid Rana, the only player to clock under six minutes was Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who completed the run in 5 minutes and 53 seconds.
"Rana was just outstanding. Few others also did well, but at the same time there were couple of cricketers who could not meet our expectations." a member of the team management told Cricbuzz.
Young batter Parvez Hossain Emon crossed the line in 6 minutes and 13 seconds, while senior pro Mushfiqur Rahim finished in 6 minutes and 10 seconds. All-rounder Mahedi Hasan Miraz was only a second slower than the six-minute mark. T20I skipper Litton Kumar Das and Towhid Hridoy were among six players from the 25-member preliminary squad who did not take part in the fitness test.
Bangladesh will host a three-match T20I series against the Netherlands from August 30 to September 3, before kicking off their T20 Asia Cup 2025 campaign against Hong Kong on September 11 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Placed in Group B with Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, the team will look to carry forward their momentum from the recent 2-1 home series win over Pakistan as they aim for their maiden Asia Cup title.
