Mumbai Indians Dismiss Rift Rumours Between Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma Ahead of IPL 2026

On March 13, a post on X (formerly Twitter) claimed that Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, had told Rohit Sharma that he had to improve his performance in **Indian Premier League 2026** or he would be released from the team. The post had garnered a huge number of shares from cricket enthusiasts.

Mumbai Indians dismiss rumours of a Hardik Pandya-Rohit Sharma rift before IPL 2026

There are a number of pages on social media that share cricket news, quotes, and other information to gain popularity. However, the information they share might not be true. In this case, the information shared on the post was not true.

The post claimed that Hardik Pandya had told Rohit Sharma to improve his performance. The post further claimed that Rohit had not performed well over the years as he had not been a good captain for Mumbai Indians. The post claimed that Rohit had to improve his performance in the next IPL season or he would be released from the team.

“Hardik Pandya has informed the management that there will be no tolerance this time if Rohit fails to deliver. The MI management is very frustrated with Rohit’s performances over the last 10–12 years, as he has often scored only around 200–300 runs per season and that too at a strike rate close to 120, despite being one of the highest-paid players in the squad,”

However, soon after the post went viral, Mumbai Indians announced that the post was fake. They claimed that there was no problem between Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma. It was also reported that Rohit was not happy when the team chose Hardik Pandya as the new captain. However, this does not imply that there is any fight or tension between these two players. Earlier in the day, Board of Control for Cricket in India vice-president Rajeev Shukla also spoke about this topic.

He said that they spoke to both Rohit and Hardik to ensure everything was well between them because they are important players for India’s ODI team. He said there was no problem between them, and the problem was only because of how some of the fans reacted.
