Multan Sultans had been without an owner after Ali Tareen decided not to renew the franchise contract for another ten years, unlike the remaining PSL teams. Following that move, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to run the franchise in-house for PSL 11 and auction it off before the next season.

However, buoyed by the record-breaking prices fetched by the two new franchises, Hyderabad and Sialkot, the PCB reversed its decision and invited bids for Multan’s ownership rights.

When will the Multan Sultans auction take place?

Multan Sultans will be auctioned on February 9 in Lahore.

At what time will the auction begin?

The team auction will begin at 6:00 PM (Pakistan Standard Time).

Will the auction be streamed live?

Yes. Like the previous team auction, where Hyderabad and Sialkot were sold, this will also be streamed live on the PSL YouTube channel.

Who will bid in the auction?

The PCB has shortlisted five out of the six bids it received. Walee Technologies, AIM Next, Deharki Sugar Mills, Particle Igniter, and CD Ventures are the qualified bidders.

Is Ali Tareen a part of the auction?

Yes. Ali Tareen will be a part of the auction through Deharki Sugar Mills, which is run by his family.

Why were Multan Sultans not auctioned last month with Sialkot and Hyderabad?

The PCB did not invite bids for Multan’s franchise rights along with the other two teams, citing PPRA (Public Procurement Regulatory Authority) rules. Under these rules, a sale is to be advertised for some time before being put up for auction.

Since Ali Tareen’s contract expired only about a week before the first team auction, the PCB could not include Multan in that process.
