Matthew Wade Retires from International Cricket After 13-Year Career

Australian wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday, concluding a distinguished 13-year career with 225 appearances for Australia. The 36-year-old leaves the international stage having participated in three T20 World Cups, most notably helping Australia secure their first T20 title in 2021 as vice-captain in Dubai.

Wade’s standout moment came during the 2021 semi-final against Pakistan, where he scored an explosive 41* off just 17 balls. In addition to his T20 achievements, Wade played 36 Test matches, accumulating 1,613 runs, including four centuries, with a top score of 117 against England in the 2019 Ashes.

His One Day International (ODI) record includes 97 matches, where he scored 1,867 runs at an average of 26.29, with one century and 11 fifties. In T20Is, he scored 1,202 runs in 92 matches, averaging 26.03 with a strike rate of 134.15.

Though retiring from international cricket, Wade will continue to play domestically in Australia and in various global franchise leagues. He will also begin his coaching career immediately, having been appointed to the Australian coaching staff for the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan.
