The IPL 2026 playoff competition has become increasingly intense with each passing game. Following the defeat of Royal Challengers Bengaluru by Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad now leads the league standings. Both Punjab Kings and RCB have done well and stand a chance at making the playoffs, though none of the teams have secured a spot in the playoffs as yet.

The race for a place among the top four teams is incredibly close. It requires about 16 points from a team for them to be safely in the playoffs. Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants find themselves in a precarious position due to their inability to get anything more than 14 points.

IPL 2026 Playoff Qualification Scenarios

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

Need just 1 more win from their last 3 matches to reach 16 points and almost confirm a playoff spot.

Punjab Kings:

Need 2 wins from their remaining matches to reach 17 points and secure qualification.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru:

Need around 2 to 3 wins from their remaining games to reach 16–18 points. Their strong Net Run Rate (+1.234) is also a big advantage.

Rajasthan Royals & Gujarat Titans:

Both teams need at least 2 more wins to touch the 16-point mark. GT’s negative NRR is still a concern.

Chennai Super Kings:

Need to win 3 of their last 4 matches to reach 16 points and stay alive in the playoff race.

Delhi Capitals & Kolkata Knight Riders:

Both teams must win all their remaining matches to keep their playoff hopes alive.
