Matt Kuhnemann Faces Bowling Action Test After Stellar Sri Lanka Test Series Performance

Matt Kuhnemann Faces Bowling Action Test After Stellar Sri Lanka Test Series Performance

The rising Australian star Matt Kuhnemann has been reported for an illegal bowling action during his impressive performance in the Test series against Sri Lanka.

The left-arm spinner took 16 wickets with his impressive spin bowling across the two Test matches in Galle against Sri Lanka. Kuhnemann has been asked to undergo testing at an ICC-approved center, with Brisbane likely to be approved for the test.

CA spokesperson said, "The Australian team was notified of the match officials' referral following the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle and will support Matt through the process of clearing this matter, Matt has played 124 professional matches since his debut in 2017, including five Test matches and four One-Day Internationals."

"He has played 55 Big Bash League games since 2018. This is the first time in those eight years of professional cricket that his action has been questioned," he added.

According to ICC rules, bowlers are allowed to bend their arm up to 15 degrees only while bowling. Kuhnemann started his professional career in 2017, this is the first time that his bowling action has been questioned. The ICC permitted to play domestic cricket while waiting for the results.

If the tests show his action is illegal, then he will be banned from bowling until he corrects his bowling action and gets it approved by the ICC. The star spinner Nathan Lyon, praised Kuhnemann as the team's best bowler in the Sri Lanka series after they combined to take 30 of the 40 wickets in the 2-0 clean sweep.

Kuhnemann broke his thumb during the Big Bash League in January but he recovered on time for the Sri Lanka tour. In his five Test matches so far, Kuhnemann has taken 25 wickets with an impressive average of 22.20.
