Manish Pandey: A Journey from Domestic Cricket to International Stardom

Manish Krishnanand Pandey (born 10 September 1989) is an Indian cricketer who plays international Cricket for India. He is a right-handed middle-order batsman and domestic he represents Karnataka. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) he plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Pandey previously played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, where he opened the batting and made history as the first Indian player to score a century in the IPL doing so during the 2009 season. He was also part of the Indian team that won the 2018 Asia Cup.

Early Cricket Journey and Family Legacy:

At 15 years Pandey had to pack up his life in Nainital, Uttarakhand, and move to Bangalore because his dad's job in the Indian Army meant they had to relocate. Once there, he went to Kendriya Vidyalaya for school and became involved with the Karnataka State Cricket Association.

This was where his cricket skills really started to shine. It was a major moment when he got picked for the Indian team in the 2008 ICC Under-19 World Cup held in Malaysia. His performance there was of significant consequence because it helped India win and kick-started his cricket career. Not simply Pandey but his sister, Anita Pandey was also doing really well in cricket playing for Karnataka.

Personal life:

Pandey married Indian actress Ashrita Shetty on December 2, 2019 in Mumbai. Ashrita Shetty was born on July 16, 1993 making her 31 years old as of December 2024. She is known for her work in Tamil and Telugu films and her marriage to Pandey has attracted considerable media attention.

Domestic career:

Manish Pandey is of significant consequence in domestic cricket for Karnataka always coming through in different types of games. Pandey started playing for the state team in 2008 and has been vitally important in competitions such as the Ranji Trophy, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and the Vijay Hazare Trophy ever since. When Karnataka grasped the Ranji Trophy in the 2013-14 season and took home the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the 2014-15 season, Pandey was there helping it happen as the captain for several tournaments, including the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2021.

He's got great leadership skills because he made many hundreds and helped his team win games. Pandey is seen as one of the most reliable and impactful players for Karnataka in domestic cricket.

Indian Premier League(IPL) career:

Manish Pandey first started playing in the IPL in 2008 when Mumbai Indians picked him for 25 lakh INR. Then 2009, he moved to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to be a skilled batter who bats in the middle of the lineup and stayed there through 2010. After that, from 2011 to 2013 he played for Pune Warriors India for the next three IPL seasons.

He became popular when Sunrisers Hyderabad paid a whopping ₹11 crore for him in 2018 making him one of the major names in the IPL. In 2014, he started becoming very popular with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) because he performed well during the group stages and played an important part in their action plan.

The KKR management liked what they saw in Manish's skills so much that they kept him on the team for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. His approach was so good they just couldn't let him go but moved ahead to 2021, while he was with Sunrisers Hyderabad, things didn't go as well, and he wasn't seen performing his role as much that year(2018).

Pandey has been amazing with the bat during his time in the IPL. He's famous for creating some great innings such as when he obtained an unforgettable century for RCB in 2009 and scoring a massive 94 runs in the final match of 2014. He often finds himself among the high scorers of the league especially demonstrating his skills in 2014 and 2017.

In the 2022 IPL auction, the Lucknow Super Giants decided Pandey was their man and paid ₹4.6 crore to get him. Then, the next year in 2023 Delhi Capitals thought Pandey could strengthen their team and spent ₹2.4 crore for him. Move ahead to the 2024 IPL auction and Kolkata Knight Riders wanted him back, obtaining a deal for just the base price of ₹50 lakh.

In 2014, Manish Pandey really showed the world what he could do playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Pandey knocked out 401 runs across 16 games, making him important for KKR winning the championship that year. The important moment was in the final game against Kings XI Punjab, where he obtained an amazing 94 runs.

This didn't only win him the Man of the Match award and It also helped KKR get the win. Pandey proved he is a star, altogether when the pressure is on putting him up there as one of the greats in IPL history.

International career:

On July 14, 2015, Pandey played his first One Day International (ODI) game for India and impressively teamed up with Kedar Jadhav for a revolutionary 144-run collaboration. The team really needed it because they were in a tough spot at 82 for 4 but Pandey remained and scored 71 runs to help fix things. Besides, he got to play his first Twenty20 International match just three days later on the same tour.

In January 2016, Pandey had a special time when he played really well during a tour in Australia. At the Sydney Cricket Ground during the last ODI, Pandey knocked out an unbeaten 104 runs and helped India win against Australia. Because of his innings, India managed to hit a tough target of 330 runs and they only had two balls left. The win was very big because it stopped India from losing all the games in the series.

In 2016, Yuvraj Singh couldn't play, so, Pandey got his chance to join the Indian group for the World T20. He made it into the team of 15 for the 2017 Champions Trophy as well but then, he got injured during the IPL, which meant he couldn't play in that tournament. Fast forward to June 2021, Pandey made his comeback to the Indian team for a series of ODI and T20I matches against Sri Lanka, showing he's still part of the team.
