Manav Suthar Joins Warwickshire Ahead of India’s Sri Lanka Test Tour

Manav Suthar has signed with Warwickshire County Cricket Club. The spin-bowling all-rounder made his Test debut for India national cricket team against Afghanistan national cricket team in Mullanpur last week. He impressed everyone by taking six wickets in the first innings and finished the match with seven wickets overall. With a small gap in the schedule, Suthar has decided to play two matches for Warwickshire in the County Championship.

Manav Suthar Set for Warwickshire Stint Ahead of Sri Lanka Tour

The 29-year-old will play against Yorkshire at Scarborough from June 12 to 15 and against Somerset at Taunton from June 19 to 22 before the Blast resumes. Suthar has played 30 first-class matches after making his debut in 2022. The left-arm orthodox spinner played in Australia for India A in 2024, but the Warwickshire stint will be the first time Suthar has played any form of competitive cricket in England.

“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Warwickshire for the next two County Championship games. The team have started the season very well, so I’m hoping that I can play a part in helping them in their push for the title,” Suthar said.

After an impressive Test debut, Manav Suthar is likely to be selected for India’s tour of Sri Lanka. The Shubman Gill-led Indian team will play two Test matches from August 15 to 27. India last toured Sri Lanka in 2017. While experienced spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav have played there before, Washington Sundar and Suthar do not have experience of playing Test cricket in Sri Lanka. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has planned first-class matches in Sri Lanka after India A’s tri-series against Afghanistan A and Sri Lanka A ends on June 21.

Suthar is expected to be part of those matches, but that gives him ample time to ply his trade in England and work on his game in foreign conditions. Jaydev Unadkat has also joined Sussex. The Indian left-arm fast bowler has played for the county for the last 3 seasons and signed a 2-year contract with Sussex in 2024. Unadkat has picked up 42 wickets in 10 matches for the team and wasn’t available for the first leg of the County Championship 2026 due to his Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 commitment with the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
