Major Changes in Indian Team’s Support Staff, Indications of Changes in Central Contracts

Major Changes in Indian Team’s Support Staff, Indications of Changes in Central ContractsWith ten months left for the 2026 T20 World Cup, changes in the Indian cricket team might begin soon. Following this, there could be a reshuffle in the team’s jumbo support staff as well. A high-level meeting is scheduled in Guwahati on March 29, where BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, and the head coach may have discussions.

A meeting between Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir has also been lined up in Guwahati on March 30, reports indicate. BCCI Secretary recently said that plans for the structure of the team and the central contracts for players have been in discussion for the last few months, and things can be finalized in the near future.

A few days back, the BCCI organized an apex committee meeting in Kolkata, where key issues were discussed with respect to team management. Some players will be dropped from the central contracts, while some new players could be included.

BCCI Considering Coaching Changes: T. Dilip at Risk?

The coaching team, such as Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, Bowling Coach Morne Morkel, and Fielding Coach Dilip, may see some changes. The positions of security manager Sumeet Mallapurkar and other staff may also be reviewed. Some of the members, such as Gambhir, Morkel, Dexter, and Narang, were already with the team, but there could be some fresh appointments.

The BCCI's decision-making committee will have the final say on these changes. Recently, the selection committee had some differences with the team management causing some delays in decisions. However, efforts are being made to ensure that all stakeholders work together for a smooth transition.

Central contract changes were also on the agenda in the Kolkata meeting and the board is mulling the exclusion of underperforming players from the contracts. The BCCI is looking to prioritize performance-based picks. Additionally, the team’s Test schedule for June and July will also be discussed in the upcoming meeting.
