Lizelle Lee Shatters WBBL Records with Unbeaten 150 Against Scorchers

Lizelle Lee Shatters WBBL Records with Unbeaten 150 Against Scorchers

In a groundbreaking display of power-hitting, Lizelle Lee etched her name into cricketing history with a record-breaking innings of 150 not out, propelling the Hobart Hurricanes to a commanding 72-run victory over the Perth Scorchers in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL). Lee’s innings was a masterclass in aggressive batting, featuring a blazing century off just 51 balls and breaking the world record with an astonishing 12 sixes.

The Hurricanes set a formidable total of 203 for 3, largely due to Lee's explosive contribution, which alone accounted for a staggering 73% of the team's runs. Her performance eclipsed the previous WBBL records held by Grace Harris, who scored 136 not out in the previous season. Lee's innings now stands as the fifth-highest in all women's T20s and the highest ever recorded in a Full Member nation.

Coming into this match, Lee had notched a highest score of 38 in her five WBBL innings this season. Reflecting on her performance, Lee remarked, "It's one of those days, I won't say everything came off the middle because it didn't, but things just went my way. Coming through a little dip like that, having the support of the group and family was incredible."

The Hurricanes had initially found themselves in a precarious position at 16 for 2 in the third over after Chloe Ainsworth’s consecutive deliveries claimed two wickets. However, a dynamic partnership between Lee and Elyse Villani added 114 runs off just 65 balls for the third wicket, with Villani contributing a modest 14 off 19 balls. The innings was further bolstered by an unbroken 73-run partnership off 39 balls alongside Heather Graham.

Lee's innings was not without its moments of fortune; she was given a lifeline on 63 when a catch was dropped at backward point off Ainsworth’s bowling. Despite this chance, Ainsworth emerged with respectable figures of 2 for 17 amidst the run-fest. Lee initiated her six-hitting spree with back-to-back maximums, setting the tone for her record-breaking innings.

This performance not only solidifies Lee's reputation as one of the most formidable hitters in women's cricket but also significantly boosts the Hurricanes' standing in the WBBL. As the tournament progresses, all eyes will undoubtedly be on Lee to see if she can maintain this extraordinary form.
