KL Rahul in Contention for Bangladesh T20I Series After Strong IPL 2025 Show: Reports
KL Rahul is reportedly in line for a recall to India’s T20I side after impressing with the bat for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025.
According to a report by the Times of India, KL Rahul could be in the reckoning for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh. As selectors begin discussions for India’s tour of Bangladesh in August, which features three ODIs and three T20Is, Rahul's name is reportedly among those being considered for a T20I comeback. It’s been around two and a half years since he last featured in a T20 international, with 72 caps to his name in the format.
Still, some reports suggest that the BCCI might decide not to send players to Bangladesh because of recent tensions between India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Rahul last played a T20I for India on November 10, in the T20 World Cup semifinal against England. He opened the innings with Rohit Sharma but was out for just five runs off five balls dismissed by Chris Woakes. That early blow was part of a tough day for India ended up losing the match by 10 wickets and crashing out of the tournament.
In that T20 World Cup, Rahul struggled. He scored just 128 runs in six games, averaging 21.33 with a strike rate of 120.75. Many felt the selectors should try other players. But over the past six months, he’s been in great form. His recent performances give the selectors a strong reason to pick him again.
Rahul’s Batting Masterclass in IPL 2025
Rahul showed his batting skills once again in the IPL 2025 match between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans. He scored an unbeaten 112 runs off just 65 balls hitting 14 fours and four big sixes. But his amazing innings didn’t get all the attention because Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill also played explosive knocks against a weak Delhi bowling attack. Even though Rahul’s century helped DC reach a strong total of 199 for three in 20 overs, it wasn’t the main highlight of the game. Still, his steady and impressive form throughout the IPL season has been clear to see.
KL Rahul became the fastest player to reach 8,000 runs in T20 cricket doing it in just 224 innings over 237 matches beating big names like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. In this IPL season, he scored 493 runs in 11 games including three fifties and a century at a strike rate of 148.04. He started the tournament at number four to help the team and then moved back to opening after Jake Fraser-McGurk couldn’t play. Fresh from scoring 140 runs in five matches at the Champions Trophy in the UAE, Rahul’s strong form makes him a top contender for India’s 2026 T20 World Cup squad.
