Kanpur Stadium's Outfield Criticized as 'Unsatisfactory' by ICC

The Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, which hosted the rain-hit second Test between India and Bangladesh from September 27 to October 1, has been rated as "unsatisfactory" by the ICC, resulting in one demerit point for the venue. Only 35 overs were played on the first day, and no play occurred on the second and third days despite dry weather during playing hours on day three. Prior to the match, one of the stadium's stands was deemed unsafe, leading to restricted seating by the state's public works department.

The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) manages Green Park Stadium under an agreement with the UP government, which owns the land but has tasked the UPCA with the stadium's maintenance. BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla, a native of Kanpur, defended the venue amid criticism but acknowledged the need for upgrades at the ground, which has hosted Test cricket since 1952.

Despite losing more than two-and-a-half days to weather, India aggressively pursued a win by taking 20 Bangladeshi wickets in 121.2 overs and scoring 383 runs in just 52 overs across two innings, achieving a remarkable run rate of 7.36 per over.
