Jay Shah to Attend BCCI's Special General Meeting in Mumbai as a 'Special Invitee'

Jay Shah, who's chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), is going to attend an important meeting for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), happening in Mumbai, on Sunday. The BCCI is naming Jay Shah as a special invitee.
Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia Take on Key Roles
Last month, Shah moved to the ICC, and now he's going to attend this meeting where they are electing a new secretary and treasurer for the BCCI. Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, from the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Association, is going to be the new treasurer, taking over Ashish Shelar's spot because Shelar became a minister in the Maharashtra cabinet. Devajit Saikia from Assam is stepping up as the new secretary.
Saikia had recently been appointed as the interim secretary after BCCI president Roger Binny used his special powers granted by the constitution. The Telegraph found out that Shah will likely appear at the SGM. Former ICC leaders went to meetings similar to this before, such as how N. Srinivasan was there in 2014-2015 when he was the major leader of ICC.
The BCCI constitution hasn’t clearly addressed the rule about the chairperson not being connected to any member association, even though the ICC enforces strict rules on this. This lack of clarity has allowed past officials to attend such meetings. During the upcoming meeting, they’re also planning to acknowledge and appreciate Shah for securing his new position at the ICC.
Controversy Surrounding Rajeev Shukla's Tenure
There's an issue with Rajeev Shukla staying on as vice president because someone submitted a petition saying he's been in the BCCI for too long than the nine years that are allowed. The issue is, that the petition points out that if he doesn't quit, it might go against Supreme Court rules. This might mean big problems, like making the decisions at the SGM not count.
Even though everyone thinks the SGM is only going to be a short event with no problems, the controversy around Shukla could change things. Shukla has been Vice-President from 2004 to 2014 and also started working in his current position on December 18, 2020. people are mentioning he's worked more than 10 years, which is more than the BCCI rules allow.
At the BCCI's SGM, they're also going to discuss how well Team India played in Australia. They might not officially meet with the coaches and selectors, but it could still happen.
The Cricket Association of Bengal will be represented by president Snehasish Ganguly, though he will not have voting powers because the association missed the deadline to submit his name.
