Jasprit Bumrah Set to Begin Rehabilitation at NCA After Medical Assessment

Jasprit Bumrah Set to Begin Rehabilitation at NCA After Medical AssessmentIndian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is all set to begin his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The 31-year-old fast bowler, who last played in India’s fifth Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3-5, has been struggling with a back injury. According to a report by Times of India, Bumrah recently underwent scans under the supervision of the BCCI’s medical team. After reviewing his reports, it has been decided that he will start light physical activity, including gym sessions and light bowling, within next 24 to 48 hours.

BCCI's Wait-and-Watch Approach for Champions Trophy

With the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 starting on February 19, the BCCI is being careful about including Jasprit Bumrah in the squad. Teams have until February 11 to finalize their squads, the board is ready to wait.

A source told TOI, “Even if there’s just a 1% chance, the BCCI is likely to wait. They did something similar with Hardik Pandya, waiting for nearly two weeks before naming Prasidh Krishna as his replacement. When Shubman Gill was down with dengue, they also chose not to seek a replacement immediately. The same approach could apply to Bumrah. The deadline for submitting the squad is just a formality, and if needed, they can always approach the Event Technical Committee later for a replacement.”

Bumrah’s Recent Workload and Injury Setback

Bumrah played all five Test matches for India in Australia and took 32 wickets. He didn’t come out to bowl in the second innings of the fifth Test in Sydney due to a back spasm, and upon returning to India, he was asked to offload for five weeks.

Bumrah Last Played White Ball Match

Bumrah last played a 50-over match in the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19, where he picked up two wickets. In T20I last played for India in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa on June 29 at Kensington Oval, Barbados.
