Jasprit Bumrah on Rohit Sharma's Absence from 5th Test against Australia: 'No Selfishness'
Rohit Sharma is officially out for the fifth test between India and Australia in Sydney. This morning in Sydney, Jasprit Bumrah, the captain from India's first test win in Perth, went to do the coin toss with Australia's captain Pat Cummins. Strangely, when Ravi Shastri the commentator and ex-India coach, was speaking to Bumrah, he did not ask much about why Rohit wasn't playing.
Bumrah explained that Rohit had decided to rest for this match. “Our captain has shown leadership by choosing to rest in this game. This shows the unity in our team. There’s no selfishness. We’re all focused on doing what’s best for the team. We have two changes, Rohit is resting, and Akash Deep is injured, so Prasidh comes in,” Bumrah said during the toss.
“We’ve played some good cricket in this series. The last match was really exciting. Hopefully, we can play well again. The pitch has some grass but doesn’t look too tricky. There may be challenges with the new ball, but once you get through it, it should be a good batting surface.”- Bumrah added

Rohit made the decision after struggling to score only 31 runs across five innings in three Tests. The 37-year-old, known for his white-ball excellence, couldn’t seem to find his rhythm, even with his trademark shots.
After India struggled and lost the fourth test in Melbourne, leaving them trailing in the series 1-2, everyone started guessing if Rohit would ever play test cricket again. It was obvious Rohit wasn't going to be in the game when India was training the day before.
After playing his 67th Test in Melbourne, there’s growing talk that Rohit may soon end his fluctuating Test career. Shubman Gill returned to the playing XI, and pacer Prasidh Krishna made his first appearance in the series. Both replaced Rohit, who has been struggling for form, and Akash Deep, who is injured.
Australia handed a debut cap to all-rounder Beau Webster, replacing an out-of-form Mitchell Marsh. Webster received his Baggy Green from former player Mark Waugh. India must win this Test to retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy, while Australia only needs a draw to take the series.
