Jansen’s 11 Wicket Haul powers South Africa’s victory at Durban

Jansen’s 11 Wicket Haul powers South Africa’s victory at Durban
South Africa won the first of the two in test match series at Kingsmead, Durban. With scoring just 191 runs in the first innings, Proteas didn't just win the match, they now won it with a commanding 233-run margin. The hero of the match was pacer Marco Jenson who claimed his career-best match figures of 11-86, moreover, it was second best bowling figure by any bowler at this venue.

Jenson’s jaw-dropping bowling

The 24-year-old young pacer was unplayable throughout the match, in a dream like test match Jenson registered his first double-figure wicket haul in International test cricket. His first spell in the first innings was devastating for the Sri Lankans, as they got all out without even scoring fifty runs, With his magical spell, Jenson set the stage for South Africa's dominance in the match
Batting Masterclass by Bavuma and Stubbs.
After scoring just 191 runs in the first innings, the South African batter found it a bit easy to bat in the second innings and quickly found the rhythm. Captain Temba Bavuma continued his form from the first innings, and scored an outstanding century in the second innings, alongside Tristian Stubbs also joined Bavuma and scored a hundred. With both players' vital contributions South Africa scored 355-6 and declared the innings setting a huge target of 516 runs.

Sri Lanka’s Resistance

While chasing the big score in the last innings and losing half of the team in just 100 runs, Sri Lankan remaining batters continued to fight with Dinesh Chandimal’s resilient 83 runs and an aggressive knock by the captain Dhananjaya de Silva who scored 59. Both tried to resist but ultimately it proved insufficient for a huge target.

Positive Impact on the WTC Points Table
With this victory South Africa has boosted itself in the World Test Championship points table, now reaching the second position with a PCT of 59.26. With the upcoming test series against Pakistan at home, Proteas have managed to position themselves well for the maiden WTC final appearance if they win more matches.

What's Next
South Africa's dominating victory against Sri Lanka has set an exciting expectation for the second test match which will be played during 5-9 December in Gqeberha.
Jenson talked about his performance after the test match, saying "I never thought I would get 10 wickets. It is every bowler's dream and that is what we work for”.
Now with the momentum on the South African side, they will try their best to win the second match to strengthen the chance for a WTC finals appearance.

With South Africa's recent form and high morale, the team is set to compete at the highest level of Test cricket. The combination of explosive batting and lethal bowling makes them a series contender to be one of the teams at Lords in the summer of 2025 for the WTC final.
