Mumbai Indians, maintaining their 8-year record, lost both of the starting matches of the season, first losing against Chennai Super Kings by four wickets and then losing in their second match against Gujarat by 36 runs. Meanwhile, Kolkata, after losing the inaugural match of the season against RCB, made a comeback against Rajasthan, winning it by seven wickets. 

The upcoming match will be played on 31 March at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Both sides will be looking to win to strengthen their positions in the points table.

Kolkata Knight Riders, who missed some of last year's Champions, like Shreyas Iyer and Mitchell Starc, tried to build the team with some new players, but the team still doesn't look as strong as last year's. Mumbai Indians have a decent batting attack, with Rohit Sharma, Surya Kumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya leading the charge. However, MI's biggest strength lies in its pace attack, where Jaspreet Umrah, Trent Boult, and Deepak Chahar bowl as one of the most lethal trios. Due to an injury, the team will play without Bumrah in the first few matches and will be led by Boult and Chahahar in the pace attack.
