IPL 2025: Zaheer Khan and Justin Langer’s Future at Lucknow Super Giants in Doubt

IPL Season 18 has only just ended, but teams have already started making moves for the next Season. Many franchises are likely to change their players and coaching staff. One of the biggest changes could happen in the Lucknow Super Giants camp.

Finishing seventh with only six wins out of 14 matches hasn’t gone down well with the Lucknow Super Giants management. Now, there are doubts about the future of some key members of the coaching team, including mentor Zaheer Khan.

Zaheer and Langer’s Future with LSG in Doubt After Poor Season

According to Cricbuzz, both Zaheer Khan and Justin Langer had signed one-year contracts for the 2025 IPL season. But after LSG’s disappointing performance, there are now doubts about whether the current team staff are the right fit. Zaheer joined as a mentor before the IPL 2025 Auction, but it looks unlikely that he will stay with the team after this season.

Langer was brought in to work with former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan, but it's not clear how well the two worked together. Reports say there’s still some unhappiness within the team and management. Langer, who once coached the Australian team, doesn't seem to be under as much pressure, as most of the focus is on Zaheer. This was LSG’s second year in a row without reaching the Top 4. Even though Zaheer wasn’t part of the coaching group last season, he might still be blamed for how things went this year.

LSG Owner’s Involvement and Coaching Changes Under Scrutiny

LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka is known for being deeply involved with the team. In 2024, his public argument with KL Rahul played a big role in Rahul eventually leaving the franchise. This season, Goenka was often spotted chatting with captain Rishabh Pant after matches. Pant is believed to share a good working relationship with mentor Zaheer Khan. However, Pant's own poor form on the field hasn’t made things any easier for the team.

Langer might also be shown the door. After Andy Flower took LSG to the playoffs two years in a row, Langer has only managed average results in both his seasons. Meanwhile, Flower has gone on to win the IPL title with RCB, finally ending their 18-year wait. Out of the 10 teams in the league, Lucknow is still one of the three that have never won the trophy.
