IPL 2025: Top Batters Who Can Win the Orange Cap?

It's less than five days remaining for the eighteenth edition of the Indian Premier League, and a lot of runs are expected to be scored this season as most of the players are in form. We are witnessing season by season that the IPL is getting favourable for batters, which has resulted in higher runs getting scored every season. In this article we will discuss the top players who can be the highest run scorer of the season and win the orange Cap.


The upcoming season of the IPL will start on the 22nd of March with a match between two top teams, defending Champions Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru. This IPL season will feature 74 matches where all the teams will be playing 14 games, 7 of which will be home games while 7 will be away games, while the season will end on 25th May with the finals. 

 

These are the top players who can win the orange cap in the upcoming season.

 

Virat Kohli 

IPL 2025

Virat Kohli, the highest run-scorer in the history of the Indian Premier League, is the biggest contender and front-runner in the highest run-scorer race for IPL 2025. Virat is coming off a great IPL season last year, where he scored 741 runs in 15 matches, bagging the orange cap for the second time. Virat has scored runs consistently over the years except in the last few seasons. His best season was IPL 2016 where he took the team to the finals while becoming the highest ever run scorer in a single season in the history of IPL, he scored 973 runs smashing four centuries.

 

In the 252 matches played, Virat scored 8004 runs with an average of 38.67 and strike rate of 131.97. He has eight centuries and is currently the highest run-scorer in the history of the Indian Premier League. With his impressive record, he is the leading contender to be the highest run-scorer in the season, and he could win the orange cap for the third time.

Ruturaj Gaikwad 

IPL 2025

The young captain of Chennai Super Kings, Ruturaj Gaikwad, is another strong contender to win the orange cap this season. Ruturaj has performed consistently in the previous seasons, coming off scoring over 500 runs in both of the previous seasons. In the last season, IPL 2024, Ruturaj scored 583 runs in the 14 matches played, with a century and four half-centuries. Ruturaj's capabilities can be understood by the fact that in the second season after his debut, IPL 2021, he won the orange cap, scoring 635 runs. 

In the 66 matches played, he has scored 2380 runs with an average of 41.75 and a strike rate of 136.86. In his IPL career, he has scored two centuries and 18 half-centuries. As a captain and opener of the CSK, he is expected to lead from the front in the upcoming IPL 2025.

Shubman Gill 

IPL 2025

The star cricketer of India's team, Shubman Gill, is coming off great form, scoring back-to-back centuries in the recent home series against England and playing a crucial role in India's Champions Trophy victory. Shubman Gill is a strong contender to win the orange caps in the coming season. Shubman is currently the captain of Gujarat Titans and also the highest run scorer for the team, in the last season itself he scored 426 runs in 12 matches with an average of 38.73 and strike rate of 147.40 scoring one century and two half century. 

 

In the 103 matches played so far, he scored 3216 runs with an average of 37.84 and a strike rate of 135.70. In their IPL career, he smashed four centuries and 20 half-centuries while hitting 95 sixes. Shubman Gill will be opening the innings and is the one who could win the orange cap this season.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

IPL 2025

The young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is well known for his attacking and consistent batting, is another strong player who can win the orange cap in the upcoming season. Jaiswal, who has recently made their debut for India in the white ball cricket, is a strong contender who can win the orange cap this season. Jaiswal is currently India's permanent test cricket opener and has recently made a series of records. 

 

In the IPL 2024, he scored 435 runs in the 16 matches he played. In his IPL career, he scored 53 matches, scoring 1607 runs at an average of 32.14 and a strike rate of 150.61. He also scored centuries and nine half-centuries so far. With consistent back-to-back performance, Jaiswal will be aiming for his first Orange cap.
