IPL 2025: R Ashwin Ends Silence on YouTube Controversy: Stops CSK Coverage Amid Backlash

Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin made a strong decision on Sunday after finding himself caught up in a controversy during the ongoing IPL 2025 season. The experienced spinner said he will not share any videos about the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on his YouTube channel for the rest of the tournament.

During one of Chennai Super Kings' recent matches in IPL 2025, former South Africa and RCB analyst Prasanna Agoram raised questions about CSK’s decision to pick Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad over seasoned players like R. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. The clip of his comments was shared on Ashwin’s own YouTube channel, which caused a bit of controversy. Following the backlash, Ashwin later removed the video from his channel.

After CSK lost to Delhi Capitals by 25 runs at home on Saturday, coach Stephen Fleming was asked about the video. He said it didn’t matter and called it “irrelevant.”

"I have no idea. I didn't even know he had a channel, so I don't know that stuff. That's irrelevant," he said.

Ashwin’s YouTube Channel Under Fire

Amid the ongoing controversy, Ashwin, who retired from international cricket in December last year, shared a heartfelt message on his YouTube channel. In it, he explained that they’ve decided not to talk about anything related to the Chennai team during this IPL season.

"Given the nature of the discussions on this forum over the last week, we want to be mindful of how things can be interpreted and have chosen to step away from covering CSK games, both previews and reviews, for the rest of this season," read a note from the admin of Ashwin's channel.

"We value the diversity of perspectives that come through on our shows and remain committed to ensuring the conversation stays true to the integrity and purpose of the platform we've established. The views expressed by our guests do not reflect Ashwin's personal opinions," it further said.

Noor has been the best bowler in the tournament and probably the only bright spark apart from Khaleel Ahmed in CSK's dwindling campaign that has seen them losing three of their four games thus far.
