IPL 2025 Points Table: Updated Team Ranking, Standings, and Net Run Rate After SRH vs LSG
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) capitalized on Shardul Thakur's bowling masterclass combined with Nicholas Pooran's explosive knock to demolish the in-form Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by five wickets, securing their maiden victory of IPL 2025. SRH registered a challenging total of 190/9 despite Shardul Thakur's brilliant four-wicket haul. In response, Nicholas Pooran's blistering 26-ball 70 powered LSG to chase down the target in just 16.1 overs.
Earlier, after going unsold in the IPL 2024 mega auction, Shardul Thakur produced a phenomenal performance against top team SRH. His brilliant four-wicket haul was instrumental in restricting SRH to 190 for 9 in their innings.
Thakur Dismisses In-Form Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan Cheaply
Thakur's last bowling stats were a solid 4 wickets for 34 runs from his four-over stint, picking up crucial breaks for LSG at critical phases of the game. He began with an early strike by dismantling SRH's opening stand, returning Abhishek Sharma to the pavilion for just 6 runs. The right-arm pacer then placed LSG in a tight grip by hitting twice in consecutive deliveries, removing the in-form Ishan Kishan for a golden duck. Kishan, who had smashed a breathtaking century in his last game against Rajasthan Royals was a victim of Thakur's searing pace, leaving SRH struggling at 15 for 2.
Even after those early blows, Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy dug in and built a crucial 61-run partnership to get SRH back on track. Head looked in great touch, timing the ball beautifully, but just when he seemed set for a big one, debutant Prince Yadav got the better of him, dismissing him for 47. Heinrich Klaasen then came in with an attacking mindset, looking to take the game away, but his counterpunch was cut short by a brilliant piece of fielding from Yadav, leading to a sharp run-out.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, who had been a stabilizing force for SRH, then fell victim to Lucknow Super Giants' leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, getting clean bowled for 32.
Aniket Verma’s Fireworks: Five Sixes in a Blazing Cameo
Just when it seemed like SRH might be on the back foot, Aniket Verma stepped in with a much-needed spark. He exploded with five sixes in a rapid 36-run cameo off just 13 balls before Digvesh Rathi claimed his wicket. Verma’s explosive hitting lifted SRH to 156/6. Meanwhile, Abhinav Manohar couldn’t make much of an impact, scoring just two runs as Shardul Thakur bagged his third wicket of the match.
However, SRH captain Pat Cummins brought some late momentum into the innings with a spurt of aggression hitting three successive sixes off his first three deliveries. Though his aggressive batting stint was brief as Avesh Khan sent him back for 18 runs off just four balls, it provided an interesting turn to the game. Shardul Thakur then completed his fine spell by dismissing Mohammed Shami, which was also his 100th IPL wicket. Interestingly, all the bowlers for the Lucknow Super Giants contributed with a minimum of one wicket.
Looking ahead, LSG are set to face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their next IPL clash on April 1, while SRH will go head-to-head with Delhi Capitals (DC) on March 30.
