IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians Squad Analysis, Playing XI, Captain, Latest Updates, New Jersey and more

Five-time champion Mumbai Indians will return to the field in the IPL 20-25 season to win their sixth title after their worst-ever performance in IPL 2024.

 IPL 2024: Worst Season Ever

In the last season, Mumbai Indians finished in the last position, winning only four out of 14 matches against Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad Delhi capitals and Royal challengers Bengaluru. Team performance was so bad that none of its players were in the race of orange cap or purple cap. The season also witnessed the controversial captaincy change where Hardik Pandya was handed over the team's captaincy.

IPL 2025 Mumbai Indians retentions

For this season, the team retained a view of the best T20 cricketers worldwide, including Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Jaspreet Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and young Tilak Verma.

Hardik Pandya will continue as the team captain this year, and Mahela Jaywardhane will be the Head Coach.

Auction Show

The auction team did manage to gather some proven and lethal players; Mumbai bought 18 players in the auction, of which eight were overseas.

Notable additions were Trent Bolt, Deepak Chahar, Will Jacks, and Allah Ghazanfar.

Here is the list of all the players bought in the auction. Interestingly, in the auction in Mumbai, Indians were able to get Will Jacks because Royal Challengers Bangalore didn't use their RTM card for him.

Lethal Pace Trio: Bumrah, Bolt and Deepak Chahar

Mumbai bought left-hand pacer Trent Boult, a former MI player who joined the team again. They also bought Indian pacer Deepak Chahar at the auction. With Bumrah already in the team, Mumbai's pace attack is undoubtedly the most lethal in the league. Boult and Chahar will start the innings, and Bumrah will bowl the death overs.

Batting Department: One of the Best

Batting

Mumbai Indians possess a great combination of betters in the team, especially the top order, Rohit Sharma, Surya Kumar Yadav, and Tilak Verma. The team also bought Will Jacks in the auction, which further solidified the team's batting. Along with these, the team also bought South African Ryan Rickelston and Bevon Jacobs.

All Rounders

Mumbai has two main all-rounders, Hardik Pandya and Mitchell Santhner, while the team also have Will Jacks and Naman Dhir; however, we still don’t count them as complete all-rounders. The team also has two uncapped Indian all-rounders, Raj Angad Bawa and Vignesh Puthur, but it's still unclear whether they will get chance to play any match.

Bowling Attack

As discussed above, the team possesses a lethal pace attack, while the spin department features some voids. There is only one Indian spinner on the team, Karn Sharma, while the other two spinners, Mitchell Santher and Allah Ghazanfar, are overseas. It will be interesting to see how teams manage with the limited spin options and maintain team balance.

Previous seasons record

Under Rohit Sharma’s eleven years of captaincy from 2013 to 2023, Mumbai Indians won 5 IPL titles. It won its first title in 2013 and continues to win every alternate year till 2019, i.e. 2013,2015,2017,2019 and 2020.

New Brand Partnership

Mumbai Indians announced its new principal partner, Lauritz Knudsen, a week ago.
