India’s Road to 2027 ODI World Cup: Gautam Gambhir Shares Preparation Plan

The 2026 T20 World Cup is over, and the India cricket team will now focus on the next big tournament, the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. India has won the T20 World Cup two times in a row. Now, the team will try to end their 16-year wait to win the 50-over World Cup, which they last won in 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.
Following India’s win on Sunday, head coach Gautam Gambhir has revealed when the preparation for the ODI World Cup will begin. Speaking to India Today, Gambhir said that the preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup will start after the end of IPL 2026.
Gautam Gambhir says India will start planning for the 2027 ODI World Cup after IPL 2026
The head coach claimed that it was better for the team to have early planning for the marquee tournament as the format wasn’t being played much these days.
“The planning for the 2027 World Cup will start after the IPL. There are 25 to 30 ODIs between IPL 2026 and the World Cup. This format is not played a lot these days. The earlier we start planning, the better it will be for us,” Gambhir said.
The 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup will be played in South Africa. Head coach Gautam Gambhir said that playing cricket in South Africa is not easy. He added that the team management must find the right team combination and choose players who can perform well in those conditions. The Indian head coach said that the blueprint for the 2027 ODI WC will be ready by the time IPL 2026 ends.
“South Africa is not an easy place to play cricket. We have to figure out combinations and identify the players who are suited to the conditions. The selectors and the coaches will do that. By the time IPL 2026 ends, India will have a blueprint for the ODI World Cup 2027,” Gambhir added.
