Indian Star Wicketkeeper-Batter Set for Ranji Trophy Comeback in Late October: Report

[ Poll: DLvNokLW ]

Indian star wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant is set to make a comeback on October 25 after recovering from a foot injury. He had fractured his toe during the fourth Test against England in Manchester, which kept him out of the final Test of the series, the Asia Cup, the two Test series against West Indies at home, and the upcoming white-ball tour of Australia.

Rishabh Pant Set for Ranji Trophy Return in Late October After Foot Injury

According to the Times of India (TOI),Rishabh Pant wants to play for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy season, which starts on October 15. However, the BCCI’s medical team at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) will need to check his fitness before giving him the clearance to play. A BCCI source told TOI, “He could be cleared by October 10. It has been a long recovery, and the medical team does not want to take any chances.”

Rishabh Pant has also informed the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) about his plans to play the Ranji Trophy matches. A senior DDCA official said that, “Pant has said he should be available for Ranji Trophy matches in Delhi from October 25, depending on his fitness and clearance from the BCCI medical team.”

The official added, “He has not committed to any date to join the Delhi camp yet. Playing the first-round match on October 15 is unlikely. If he is fit, he will most likely lead the team.”

Pant’s injury was originally expected to take six weeks to heal, but it got worse when the metatarsal in his right foot snapped the next day while batting. Despite this, he has made good progress over the past 20 days. With India’s two-Test series against South Africa starting on November 14, Pant may play in up to two Ranji Trophy matches before November 5, depending on his fitness and medical clearance.
