India vs Pakistan: First-Ever Asia Cup Final Clash

Interestingly, India and Pakistan have never faced each other in an Asia Cup final before. Even though both teams have been strong in past tournaments, they have only met in the knockout stages. After 16 editions, the 2025 final will finally see these arch-rivals go head-to-head for the first time making it a historic clash.

India has shown great confidence and teamwork in the tournament so far, playing some impressive cricket. Pakistan hasn't been as consistent with the bat, with their top and middle order failing to deliver. However, their bowling has been their strength particularly Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf’s performances against Bangladesh. This final is shaping up to be a thrilling match with India’s form and Pakistan’s bowling firepower.

The tournament highlighted how sports and politics can collide. It all started in the group stage when a few seconds of the song "Jalebi Baby" were mistakenly played instead of Pakistan's national anthem, upsetting the Pakistani fans. At the toss, both captains did not shake hands reportedly following the advice of match referee Andy Pycroft, and after the match, the Indian team left without exchanging handshakes.

Pakistan’s head coach Mike Hesson expressed disappointment and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) filed a formal protest, later suspending operations director Usman Wahla over the incident. They also asked the ICC to remove Pycroft from the tournament, but the request was denied. The group match between Pakistan and the UAE was delayed by an hour due to uncertainty over Pakistan’s participation but eventually went ahead after the PCB said Pycroft had apologized and the ICC confirmed he would remain as referee.
