India vs England 1st Highlights: England Beat India by 5 Wickets in 1st Test to Take 1-0 Lead

India vs England 1st HighlightsThe first Test of the five-match series between England and India ended with a win for the home team at Headingley. Needing 350 more runs on the final day, England chased it easily and won by five wickets.

Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley managed to handle the tough spell from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Even though they didn’t score many runs at first staying at the crease was very important for England. The runs started coming more freely once Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur came on to bowl.

Duckett scored his 15th Test fifty, reaching it in just 65 balls. England crossed 100 runs by the end of the 25th over. A few overs before lunch, Crawley got lucky when Bumrah dropped a tough return catch. England went into the lunch break without losing any wickets.

Duckett’s Ton and Root’s Calm Fifty Lead England Home

England had a strong and positive start after the lunch break. By the end of the 38th over, they had reached 165 without losing a wicket. Duckett was dropped on 97 by Yashasvi Jaiswal at deep backward square-leg, and in the next over, he scored his sixth Test century. A short rain break followed, after which Prasidh Krishna took two quick wickets removing Zak Crawley (65 off 126) and Ollie Pope (8 off 8).

Joe Root joined Duckett at the crease, with Duckett playing the more attacking role between the two. In the 55th over, Shardul Thakur struck twice. Duckett was out for 149, just one run short of 150. Harry Brook, who had fallen on 99 in the first innings got out for a golden duck this time.

Root and Ben Stokes made sure there were no more setbacks before Tea. After the break, they continued to build their partnership. It looked like they would guide England to victory together, but Stokes (33 off 51) got out trying a reverse-sweep against Ravindra Jadeja. Jamie Smith had a nervous start and hit his first boundary on his 16th ball. Bumrah didn’t bowl after a short three-over spell after Tea, and the other bowlers couldn’tslow down the scoring. Root reached his fifty with a boundary that went past the gully on the last ball of the 81st over. Smith finished the match in stylehitting Jadeja for 18 runs in one over and staying not out on 44 from 55 balls. In the end, India lost the match convincingly.
