India Secures Maiden U-19 Women’s T20 Asia Cup Title With Comprehensive Win

Gongadi Trisha and the Indian bowlers played a match-winning inning as India won the championship title in the inaugural Under-19 Women's Asia Cup 2024. On Sunday, December 22, Trisha, who has been an integral part of the Indian team that conquered the Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa last year, made sure she played a half-century in the final match in order to help Niki Prasad and her team win 41 runs against Bangladesh at the Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur.

After being sent into bat, India managed to post 117/7 on the board. Trisha was the standout performer with the bat, opening the innings with a well-crafted 52 off 47 balls, including five fours and two sixes. Skipper Niki Prasad made it to double digits but could not capitalize on her start.

Mithila Vinod gave a late push with a brisk 17 off just 12 balls, which added much-needed runs to the total. For Bangladesh, pacer Farjana Easmin was the pick of the bowlers finishing with impressive figures of 4-0-31-4. Nishita Akter Nishi also played her part grabbing two crucial wickets to keep India's batters in check.

Aayushi Shukla Stars with the Ball in India's Dominant Victory

Mosammat Eva and Sumaiya Akhter couldn't score more than single-digit figures for Bangladesh. Opener Fahomida Choya made 18 runs, and Juairiya Ferdous managed 22 runs but weren't enough. Skipper Sumaiya Akter couldn't make any difference and got out to the sharp bowling of Sonam Yadav.

Sonam Yadav and Parunika Sisodia each claimed two wickets, but the one who shone through the entire game was Aayushi Shukla. Continuing her impressive run of form Shukla, the leading wicket-taker in the tournament bowled an astonishing spell of 3.3 overs that conceded just 17 runs claiming three important wickets.

VJ Joshitha set the tone early by dismissing Eva for a duck in the second over and from there India dominated the game. Bangladesh suffered a dramatic collapse losing their last seven wickets for just 21 runs in 40 balls. With this victory India will look to carry their winning form into next year's U19 World Cup.
