India Beat Netherlands by 17 Runs, Extend T20 World Cup Winning Streak to 12

India extended their T20 World Cup winning streak to 12 matches, a run that began in 2024, after beating the Netherlands by 17 runs in their final Group A match at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The victory helped India finish top of the group with four wins in four games. Although the Dutch produced a late surge and India had a few fielding lapses towards the end, the bowlers remained in control and the chase was never really within the Netherlands’ reach.
The one thing India want to make amends for is their middle overs phase against spin, as well as Abhishek Sharma's form after the southpaw is yet to get off the mark in the T20 WC despite playing three innings. Ishan Kishan looked good, but was unlucky, with the Dutch removing both the left-handed openers inside the powerplay using Aryan Dutt's off-spin.
Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav again tried to rebuild, got starts, but failed to convert. The latter also got a reprieve when Michael Levitt dropped a dolly at deep backward square. Shivam Dube came to the party once again with a really impactful knock, slamming a 25-ball fifty and finishing with 66 off just 31 balls, hitting 4 fours and 6 sixes. Hardik Pandya also smashed 3 biggies in his 21-ball 30 before holing out on the last ball of the innings, while Rinku remained unbeaten on 6 off 3 balls. India got to 193/6 in 20 overs after opting to bat first.
India Stay Unbeaten with 12th Straight T20 World Cup Win, Defeat Netherlands by 17 Runs
Dutt was the pick of the Dutch bowlers, finishing with 2/19. Logan van Beek picked up 3 scalps, but leaked 56 runs, while Kyle Klein snapped a wicket. Bas de Leede was economical, while Colin Ackermann and Roelof van der Merwe were expensive. Levitt and Max O'Dowd started decently against Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah. Varun Chakaravarthy knocked over O'Dowd, breaking the 35-run opening stand. All top 4 batters, including de Leede and Ackermann, got starts, but the Dutch were never in the hunt as India kept chipping away.
Aryan Dutt didn't open his account. Scott Edwards tried to be funky against Bumrah and was knocked over after finding a couple of boundaries. Zach Lion-Cachet and Noah Croes hit lusty cameos towards the end, taking down the attack to Arshdeep and Pandya. SKY trusted Dube with the final over, defending 28 runs and despite a couple of dropped catches, the Mumbai-based all-rounder did the job for the hosts.
The Netherlands were restricted for 176/7. Chakaravarthy finished with 3/14 but didn't bowl 4 overs. Bumrah picked up 1/17 in his 3 overs. Pandya snapped 1/40. Dube finished with 2/35, while Arshdeep, Sundar and Abhishek were wicketless. India storm into the Super 8s with great momentum. They will play South Africa at the same venue on the 22nd of this month, face Zimbabwe at Chepauk on the 26th and take on the West Indies on March 1st.
