India put on a brilliant batting show to chase down their highest ever total against Pakistan in T20 cricket! The Men in Blue beat their big rivals for the second time in this Asia Cup, starting their Super 4 campaign with a strong six-wicket win in Dubai. India won the toss and chose to field first, thinking about the dew. The decision worked out well.
Pakistan tried a new opening pair, sending Fakhar Zaman and Sahibzada Farhan. Farhan got an early chance when Abhishek Sharma dropped him on zero. Zaman started well but was caught by Sanju Samson off Hardik Pandya in the third over, though he wasn’t happy with the TV umpire’s decision.
Farhan fought back and attacked Jasprit Bumrah, scoring freely. Pakistan made 55 runs in the powerplay, their highest against India in that phase. Bumrah gave away 34 runs, his most expensive powerplay in T20Is. Saim Ayub also got a lifeline when Kuldeep Yadav dropped a simple catch.
Farhan (58 off 45) and Ayub (21 off 17) added 72 runs for the second wicket. The two used the extra chances well, hitting India hard. Once the partnership broke, Pakistan’s innings slowed down. Shivam Dube led India’s comeback, while Salman Ali Agha and Faheem Ashraf added some quick runs at the end. Pakistan finished at 171/5 in 20 overs. Dube ended with 2/33, while Pandya and Kuldeep took one wicket each. Bumrah had an off day, and Varun Chakravarthy bowled well but didn’t take a wicket. Axar Patel bowled only one over again.
In the chase, India started strong. Abhishek Sharma (74 off 39) smashed the first ball for six. He was well supported by his childhood friend Shubman Gill (47 off 28). The two openers put on a fantastic 105-run partnership, giving India a solid start and putting pressure on Pakistan. Even when the bowlers tried to fight back, India stayed in control.
