ICC Penalizes Arshdeep Singh for Throwing Ball at Daryl Mitchell During T20 World Cup 2026 Final

The ICC has fined Arshdeep Singh 15% of his match fee for the incident in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final match between India and New Zealand. In the match between India and New Zealand in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 final, Arshdeep tried to bowl the ball towards the stumps as Daryl Mitchell edged the ball back towards him. However, the ball hit the pad of Mitchell instead of the stumps.

Mitchell had hit two sixes against Arshdeep in the 11th over of the match, and this incident created some tension in the match as Mitchell looked quite furious and walked towards the bowler. However, India captain Suryakumar Yadav tried to diffuse the tension in the match and calmed Mitchell down. The umpire, Richard Illingworth, also warned Arshdeep for his action.

The ICC said that,

“Arshdeep accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf, third umpire Allahuddien Paleker, and fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock levelled the charge,”

After the over, Arshdeep went up to Mitchell and said sorry. After the match, he spoke to him again and even joked saying the ball had ‘reverse swung’ and hit his pads by mistake. However, the ICC stated that Arshdeep breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which states that the player must not throw the ball at another in a dangerous manner. Arshdeep was also given one demerit point, which is his first in the last two years.
