ICC Confirms Hybrid Model for Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan Not Traveling to India

ICC Confirms Hybrid Model for Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan Not Traveling to IndiaThe ICC has agreed to a hybrid model for the 2025 Champions Trophy, with games to be staged both in Pakistan and Dubai. The agreement between the PCB and BCCI has been according to the terms made. In addition, the two boards have agreed on terms for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Pakistan will not travel to India for their league-stage match against India, which will take place in Colombo instead.

The hosting rights for an ICC Women's tournament after 2027 have been secured although PCB will not receive a single penny of financial compensation from this arrangement. Every party involved in this agreement has accepted this arrangement and thus ensures smooth planning processes for these major events along with addressing both logistically and geopolitical challenges.

  • ICC approves Champions Trophy in hybrid model after agreement with PCB and BCCI
  • Matches to be played across three venues in Pakistan, India games in Dubai
  • BCCI and PCB agree in principle that Pakistan will not travel to India for the India-Pakistan match in the 2026 T20 World Cup. The match will be played in Sri Lanka, who are the co-hosts.
  • No compensation for PCB for missing the opportunity to host India matches.
  • In return, PCB will get to host an ICC women's tournament after 2027.
  • All three parties - ICC, BCCI, and PCB - are happy with the development.

PCB and BCCI Agree on Hosting Terms for 2025 and 2026 Events

The Pakistan Cricket Board will host the 2025 Champions Trophy, and 10 of the tournament matches will be held in Pakistan. India, however, will play all its three league matches, including the big match against Pakistan, in Dubai. The semifinal and final of the tournament will also be played in Dubai. This implies that if India is ejected in the league stage, Lahore and Rawalpindi in Pakistan will host the semifinal and final.

According to a related report, the PCB had earlier made a reciprocal proposal to BCCI. The PCB said if India declines to travel to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy, they will decline to go to India for the 2026 T20 World Cup, co-hosted by Sri Lanka Cricket and the BCCI, so their matches would have to be played in Colombo. The venues of the 2027 T20 World Cup semifinals and finals will be chosen at a later date.

The 2025 Champions Trophy will be played between February 19 and March 9. Eight teams have been divided into two groups for this tournament. The top two teams from each group will progress to the semifinals, which will be followed by the final. This model of hosting matches is a repetition of what happened in the Men's 50-over Asia Cup last year when Pakistan was the host. All the matches played in India - the semifinal and final were held in Colombo.
