Hesson likely to be formally warned following players’ complaints during the T20 World Cup

Hesson likely to be formally warned following players’ complaints during the T20 World CupPakistan head coach Mike Hesson is likely to be formally warned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which is currently reviewing his performance during the T20 World Cup.

Players lodge complaints about Hesson

Several Pakistan players are understood to have reached out to the board during and after the tournament to raise concerns about his conduct.

Among the concerns expressed were Hesson taking key decisions without consulting captain Salman Ali Agha and the selection panel. His stringent man management approach and unilateral decision making are said to have disturbed the dressing room environment.

Hesson, who was appointed by the PCB in May last year, has a two year contract with the Pakistan team and is therefore unlikely to be removed from the role. However, senior board officials are evaluating his behaviour with the players and are also expected to review the tour report.

Dar resigned citing similar concerns

Earlier, Aleem Dar, who was part of the Pakistan national men’s team selection panel, is understood to have resigned from his role.

Dar cited similar reasons, including Hesson’s sweeping authority over decision making, which made the former umpire feel sidelined. Sources close to the matter have also revealed that Dar was unhappy with key changes being made without discussion with the panel.

Pakistan were eliminated from the T20 World Cup following an uninspired campaign in which they defeated only Sri Lanka among full member nations.
