Harsha Bhogle names Test Team of the Year with Bumrah as captain; Rohit, Kohli, and Pant miss out

Harsha Bhogle, widely known for his cricket analysis and writing, just picked his best Test team for 2024. In his team, he picks players from various countries, England has three men, India has two, and then there is one player from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and New Zealand.

Bhogle picked Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ben Duckett to start the game as his left-handed hitters. Jaiswal really mastered it this year, achieving up to 1,332 runs across 27 innings with his bat, holding an average of 52. Jaiswal has a chance to raise that score a little bit in the Boxing Day Test happening in Melbourne. Meanwhile, Duckett wrapped up his year having scored 1,100 runs.

"Yashasvi Jaiswal did everything expected of an opener, so he's my first pick. I chose Ben Duckett because of the runs he scored around the world," Bhogle said during a Cricbuzz show.

Bhogle put Kane Williamson in the third spot and Joe Root in the fourth spot. Root was the top run-scorer of the year with 1,556 runs from 31 innings and he made five half-centuries and six centuries. Williamson managed to obtain 1,013 runs in only 18 innings, and his average was 59.58.

"It was tough to overlook Kane Williamson, even though his numbers were boosted by some big scores at home. But how can you ignore someone who has performed so well at No. 3?" Bhogle explained.

After mentioning Root, Bhogle discussed Harry Brook, saying he was an excellent player with a bright future. He also picked Kamindu Mendis from Sri Lanka and Mohammad Rizwan from Pakistan to be on the team. Bhogle chose Ravindra Jadeja for the No. 8 spot as the team's all-rounder, impressed by his accomplishment of taking 44 wickets and obtaining 500 runs in just 11 tests this year.

Bhogle was quite fond of Bumrah because he was really good at bowling no matter where he was playing. There's a pace trio in the bowling team that's very impressive. Gus Atkinson got 52 wickets over 11 tests, Kagiso Rabada grasped 32 in 7 tests, but Jasprit Bumrah was on another level, picking 62 wickets in just 12 tests.
