Greg Chappell Encourages Prithvi Shaw to Focus on Future with Indian Team
Legendary Australian cricketer and former India head coach Greg Chappell has reached out to Prithvi Shaw with a heartfelt letter, advising the young batter to move past previous setbacks and concentrate on his future with the Indian National Cricket Team. Chappell expressed his willingness to assist Shaw and encouraged the 24-year-old from Mumbai to reach out if he needs support. Recently, Shaw was left out of Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad.
Chappell referenced both Don Bradman and his own experiences to illustrate how being dropped can serve as a turning point in a player's career.
Shaw has struggled to find consistency across formats and has been absent from Team India for an extended period. Additionally, Delhi Capitals released him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, and Mumbai has also parted ways due to concerns over his commitment and fitness.
"Your past doesn’t define you. Focus on the future. You’re still in your prime, with many years ahead to make your mark. Use this time to grow as a player and surround yourself with inspiring individuals," Chappell wrote, as reported by the Times of India.
Chappell had been impressed with Shaw’s initial performances when he debuted for India, particularly noting his century against the West Indies in 2018. Despite showing promise in domestic cricket, Shaw's form waned, and his last appearance for India was in 2021.
