'Google My Record': Bumrah Responds with Humor to Reporter’s Batting Question

'Google My Record': Bumrah Responds with Humor to Reporter’s Batting Question

After the third day's play in the third Test against Australia, Jasprit Bumrah shared a fun moment with the press at the Gabba. Even when a journalist asked him about his batting skills, Bumrah kept the conversation light and positive.

The exchange started when the journalist asked Bumrah for his thoughts on India’s batting performance in the first innings. Although he jokingly admitted he might not be the best person to talk about batting, the journalist still wanted to hear the vice-captain’s views. Bumrah was quick to reply, playfully reminding the journalist of his world record for the most runs scored in a single over in Test cricket.

Reporter: "Hi, Jasprit. What is your assessment of the batting, although you are not the best person to answer the question, but what do you think about the situation of the team, considering the conditions in Gabba?"

Bumrah: "It's an interesting question. But, you are questioning my batting ability. You should use Google and see who has got the most number of runs in a Test over. But, jokes apart. That's another story."

The India vice-captain was talking about his unforgettable 34-run over against Stuart Broad in Birmingham in 2022, when he bashed the veteran England pacer for three boundaries and three sixes in a Test match. But on Monday in Brisbane, India's top order couldn't cope with Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins. At the end of a rain-affected day, India were at 51 for 4, trailing Australia's first-innings total of 445.

Bumrah Becomes Second Indian to Take 50 Test Wickets in Australia

While Bumrah is far from being a great batsman, his bowling skills are unquestioned. The Indian vice-captain showed the stuff of which champions are made in the first innings of the Brisbane Test with a six-wicket haul.

Bumrah led India's counterattack, striking regularly even as a mammoth 241-run partnership between Travis Head and Steve Smith, both of whom scored centuries to propel Australia into a dominant position.

Bumrah continues to shine at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, topping the wicket charts with 18 wickets in just five innings. In the process, he became just the second Indian bowler, and after the great Kapil Dev, to take 50 Test wickets on Australian soil on Monday.
