Gillespie Shifts Focus to 'Match Day Strategist' Role After Selection Panel Exit

In an unexpected turn, Jason Gillespie, the head coach of Pakistan's Test cricket team, is now focusing solely on preparing players for matches rather than disclosing the playing XI. This shift followed his removal from the selection panel ahead of the pivotal third Test against England in Rawalpindi.

Gillespie, who took on the head coach role in April, faced significant changes in leadership dynamics after Pakistan’s heavy defeat to England by an innings and 47 runs in Multan. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) responded by restructuring the selection committee, appointing Aleem Dar, Azhar Ali, and Aaqib Javed to make key decisions aimed at steering the team towards success. Initially, the committee included the Test captain and the head coach as voting members, but just a week later, both Shan Masood and Gillespie were removed entirely.

Despite the upheaval, the changes seem to have had a positive effect, as Pakistan celebrated its first home victory in nearly four years—their first Test win under Gillespie’s leadership. "I keep out of things now and just focus on players and getting them ready for cricket," Gillespie stated, emphasizing his new role as a match day strategist. This new approach could be pivotal as the team gears up for future challenges.
